	Pearl of Plaquemines: An inside look at the Empire fishing grounds January 17, 2011 Gazing from atop the Empire Bridge in southern Plaquemines Parish, one can see literally thousands of white PVC pipes sticking up from atop oyster beds. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, this area was home to the state’s largest oyster operation. Since the storm, a flurry of activity has returned, and oystermen and their dredges can be seen working the vast area to the west of the Empire Bridge.

	Yellow Fever July 24, 2008 Most people shudder at the though of catching yellow fever. The dreaded disease, which is contracted from infected mosquitos, was last recorded in New Orleans in 1905. Recently, however, there have been indications of a different type of “yellow fever” spreading across the Louisiana coast claiming “victims” one by one.
